Playing with Batiks

Working on a quilt for a friend that wants a special gift for her nephew.  They have lived in Bali and wanted to have that feel to the quilt.  I haven’t worked with batiks in a while.  Here is a peek of the fabrics.

Here is how the blocks for the quilt look with everything pieced.  When pressing the seams I chose to press them open to alleviate bulk when quilting.

Right now I am working on finishing up the blocks and will hopefully have the top completed today.

 

The week of two quilts completed…part 1

Last week was quite a success in the sewing room.  There were two quilts that I wanted to get done and one may actually stay with me, a FIRST.

Paris

One the recepients of the Mother’s Day quilts wanted to pass along the same idea to one of her friends.  She too had lost her mom and was missing her.  Her mother had always had a thing for Paris.  I knew the fabric line I wanted to use was Lumiere de Noel from Moda.  The colors are vibrant and subtle at the same time.  I used my standby disappearing nine patch pattern.  In each row strips of blue were added in to give some more color.

 

2011 Project Week 2

Yes, I am behind, but Week 3 will be out by this Friday.  For these next two blocks, time to go into my stash of tools that are very rarely used.  A couple of years ago I added the Tri-Recs tool to my arsenal.  Challenge of two different triangles that work together.  Last week my points were okay.  After making this block, I know I have lots of work to do to match up points.
