Wow, where has the year gone?  It’s August already.

This whole new work schedule is great for me to sew in the mornings and get my creative energy out.  Unfortunately, I haven’t had much time to write here.  Not too much different going on in the sewing room.  I did take some time yesterday to clean it up and get more organized.

Here is the latest fabric that has inspired me.  I picked it during my trip to NYC.

My design wall has a completed top on it.  Now I just need to find a great backing fabric.  The top is Moda Eva and there are still some stores that sell it.  Not sure what color I want to focus on out of green, purple, or pink.  I’m leaning towards pink and green thread during the quilting.

After a wonderful weekend in NYC I am ready to get back to normal.  I did get to stop by the garment district on Sunday very briefly.  Luckily I knew my limit and carry on size so I did not purchase too much fabric.  I picked out two wondeful yards that I already have ideas for.

What is on the docket for this week…LOTS.  I start my new job next Monday.  I’m taking the rest of the week off to spend some time sewing.  I will be in a great mood going into the new job especially if I get a few projects marked off this list.

  • Finish June block for Quilt Guild…yep, I’m behind already
  • Make the July block
  • Get those out in the mail
  • Piece rows for the custom quilt for Etsy
  • Finish applique on a quilt for Etsy
  • Press some UFO tops to hopefully get pinned and basted.
  • Get some items started for Etsy listings so I can keep listing every couple of days.

Goal for this week is to spend Wednesday-Friday sewing so I can enjoy my weekend.  Last week before we left I did make some strides in organizing my sewing room.  I unpacked about two big boxes.  I found a great new piece to put in the room for pressing pieces, it extends with drawers.  I can now walk from my cutting table, to the pressing table and put ideas up on my design wall.  My design wall is just a simple plastic tablecloth the with fuzzy back.

Fabrics that I bought for quilts have been sorted into a shoe organizer.  That way, I can just pull them out and get started.  BTW…I have that thing full, so 24 projects to go.  Doesn’t look like much was done in there last Wednesday, but I see progress and that’s what is important.

May has come and gone for the most part.  We have partially recovered from moving, getting married and both starting new jobs.  Whew, that was a lot in just a few months.

Back in the real world we are adjusting to our new schedules and fitting the rest of life in.  There is biking, running, sewing, cooking, yard work, etc that all needs to be done.  Don’t forget time with our two very needy dogs.  Luckily, there isn’t much on TV that I like during the summer and I feel I can run on less sleep than normal.

While I haven’t been posting much over the last week, I have been in my room sewing quite a bit.  I even woke up early this morning.  My creative juices are flowing!

Things I’m working on:

  • Completing the Quilts for Kids kit that I received quite a while back.  I’d like to thank them for sending me a reminder email.  Kicked myself into high gear.
  • A few more items went up on Etsy this week.  I will hopefully continue to put new ones every couple of days.
  • Birdie applique top is complete.  Last night I worked on the pieced backing.  Just putting strips together randomly.  I think it will add a nice touch to the back.

On a side note, I have LOST my seam ripper.  Really, I had two of them and now I can’t find one of them.  GRRR!!!

This is one of biggest weekends for the city of Indianapolis, make sure to check out the race on Sunday.  Even if you’re not a fan, you’ve got to respect people that are willing to drive at over 200 mph for my entertainment.  Bring on the sunblock and beers.

The roar of the engines give my goosebumps every time!!!

My stash has arrived…YEAH!

Last week the best present ever came to my new house.  MY STASH is here.  I have been on limited fabric for the last three months.  Only a few tubs of fabric made the original trip in January.  I had to leave room for clothes and my puppy.

Is there anyone interested in older fabrics from say the 70’s?  Some of it has been cut.  It’s just not my style and I’ve tried to make donation quilts from it.  I’d rather give it to someone who will use it.  Please email me at [email protected] if you are interested.  I would only charge the shipping or consider a swap.  I will hopefully post photos tomorrow, if I can find my camera cord.

Maybe now I can actually get some projects complete and work on my goals for 2010.  I am so far behind and have tried to do too much in the last few months.

So far most of my tubs have landed into the sewing room.  A couple of weeks ago I picked up a great find from Craigslist.  It’s a white cabinet with a butcher block top.  Say hello to my new pressing table.  It has drawer space and storage too.

And I thought pressing sucked…

Nothing compares to sanding your hardwood floors.  We have been doing this for a few days and this afternoon my awesome dad completed the task.  My mom and I stayed behind to clean up the house.  TOP to BOTTOM.

WOW!!!  My mom joked that the floors looked like sand to give the house a Florida feel.  She can be quite clever when she is exhausted.

Hopefully by this weekend I will be setting up my sewing room.  The painting is complete.  Up next is the staining and clearing of the floors.

This was hard work, but necessary and well worth it.  Kinda like pressing.  You can’t go on to the next step until you press.

New quilting space aquired!

Woohoo!  My new quilting/creative space is officially mine.  There are projects to be done before I can set everything up and begin sewing in my new space.

This weekend I will be painting the walls a lovely blue/aqua color.  This space is going to be very girly.  I will post pictures over the weekend.  Next week we rip up the carpet and begin working on the hardwoods that are hiding underneath.

I’m so excited to share this with my readers.  Please offer any suggestions of things I should put in my sewing/quilting room.  I’ve never had a space that I could really do whatever I want to do with.  YEAH!!
