Looking for a Pattern

During my time in NY the fall foliage inspired me to try something different.  I remember an episode of Simply Quilts on HGTV with Alex Anderson that used small scrap pieces for applique with black netting.  Saw the episode once, recorded it, got deleted for some reason, and NOW…I CAN’T remember or find the program info.

Does anyone out there know the name of the technique?  It was an Asian lady on the show that day.  She had made very small scrap pieces and used them to create a landscape scene in “nests”.  She then covered the quilt in a black netting to machine quilt.

I really want to do this with some scraps and using one of the photos I took for inspiration.

If you remember, have an idea, have used the technique, or could offer me ANY help, please comment.

Fabric Fasting

This will be the hardest month I have ever had.  I have started my fabric fast for the month of September.  We are 10 days into it and the amount of sales and promotions I have seen so far is making me sad.  I will stick to my guns.

See this picture of my fabric stash that is out???  Yeah, I need to get through some of that before I add anymore.  Good thing I have a craft show in October to help me get energized to create more projects.

This is what I have unpacked, sorted, and have for projects.

Rules for the month of September Fast:

  • I can only purchase notions that I absolutely need:  needles, thread, spray, etc.
  • No fabric can be purchased for future use.
  • If and only if I get into a project that requires more fabric, that is the only fabric I can purchase.

Oh man, I really hope I can hold out and make it through the entire month.  Hawthorne Threads and Fat Quarter Shop are very tempting with their constant updates on Facebook.

Speaking of Facebook, I have a group on there…Quiltytherapy.  Just getting it started, join me group, who knows what I might post on there.

Black vs. White

In our last guild meeting we were discussing the use of white or black fabric in order to make other colors pop.

Black tends to be the color that I turn to and rarely think about using white.  There are a few projects in the works that are using white…you will see those at a later date.

What do you tend to go with black or white?  Why?

Sewing Mania

There is a lot going on currently in my sewing room.

Most of the weekend I spent time making many more potholders.  I am very blessed to say I have been wiped out of many that were in my current inventory.

The rest of this week I am working on a very special project for a charity very close to my heart.  There will not be many posts from me this week.  I have LOTS of details to work on.

Don’t forget about the potholder giveaway over at Rachel’s Cottage House, you have until the end of the week.
