Shabby Chic Baby Girl Quilt

This Moda Simplicity fabric was some of the first fabric I purchased in charm packs.  I have held on to it for no good reason, but then had a request for a girly quilt.  I thought this would be perfect.  Girly and shabby chic.

The 5″ squares were cut into 3.5″ x 5″ rectangles and 1.5″ x 5″ rectangles.  Then I mixed and matched them to give it a random look.  I wanted the layout to be simple and floating in white.

I had put aside some of the 5″ squares to use for the binding.  I really liked the look of the white and the floral print.  Has to be my favorite part of the quilt.

For the backing I had a vintage sheet put then did find a fabric from the collection at a quilt store that I had stopped at.  I adore the vintage sheet I was wanting to use so that can be saved for another project.

Scrappy Circles Quilt

In December I received an email from someone who had one of my custom quilts given to her.  She loved it and wanted to do the same for friends that were having babies in 2012.  She wants 6 quilts this year and each one is different.

The backstory on this quilt is a joke between friends.  For the shower the mom received a onsie that said looked something like this, I imagine.

So a quilt was designed based off a request to do something similar.  This was a rough sketch that I came up with while traveling to NY in December.

I knew for the circles I wanted them to be scrappy.  After searching the internet for a tutorial, the decision was made to just make my own.  Look for the tutorial to come out next month.  Thanks to my Indy Modern ladies Lindsay and Rachael for letting me raid their red scrap stash.  Amazingly, my scraps did not include many reds.

Here is the finished quilt.

Hand embroidered

I love adding tags to quilts with the name of the baby that will be snuggling with it.

This quilt will be leaving soon and heading to it’s new home.

Finally Finished

This quilt top has been with me for SOME time, pretty sure it’s been 2 years or more.  Why didn’t I finish it?  No clue.  The backing fabric has been there.  It wasn’t buried in my sewing room.

I was inspired one afternoon to just finish it.  I love the larger size and how soft the fabrics are.  These were prewashed before sewing with them.  Actually, these were some of the first fabrics I went to Jo-Anns to buy specifically for a quilt.  I do remember vividly picking out the fabrics and putting them together.

The back is just pieced with some the fabrics I had for the project.

The quilt is available in my Etsy store here.

Can’t wait for it to brighten up a little girl’s room.

ABCs Baby Quilt

My brother in law had asked for a baby quilt back in December for another of his friends.  With everything we have had going on, it got pushed down my list.  He wanted something with green, red, and blue.  I had lots of those leftover from my patch of potholders from Christmas fabrics without screaming CHRISTMAS!

I started with the Moda Flurry and Ready, Set, Snow  along with Kona Solids that coordinate. My original blocks looked like Tetris. I decided to add in gray, my go to color this year, to each block to make it look less Christmas.  They went to the IMQG meeting with me to finish the cutting.

The fabrics I added to each block. Goodbye Tetris.

Here is the finished quilt with the embroidered ABCs, finished blocks and red quilting.  I like it.

It left Indiana to it’s new home last weekend.  I hope Ella enjoys many warm snuggles under it.

27 Dresses or something like that

Last summer I was approached by a friend to do something with bridesmaid’s dresses that were taking up lots of room in her closet.  Okay great, let’s make a memory quilt using the dresses.  There are a variety of fabrics, colors, etc to work with.  The finished product will have lots of embellishments from different aspects of the dresses.  The stack of dresses was quite large, this is a smaller version with the under dresses and most of the non-useable fabric discarded.

My original idea was a quilt as you go but that didn’t go so well.  So I scrapped it.  Back to the design board.  The light purple dress would be a great feature.  Here is a snippet of the blocks.

Hoping to have the quilt completed this week and ready for delivery.

Fat Quarter Tear Challenge

A few months ago the IMQG had everyone bring in fat quarters in yellow, orange, and/or teal.  The strips from tearing have been sitting in my projects basket since I left that meeting.  Last Friday I decided I needed a project to just do in a day and just be creative.

I started with the yellow floral print featured above.  Kona white and a pattern of orange, blue, and yellow in varying strip sizes.  It was great to just play and design.

For the quilting I knew I wanted (semi) straight tight lines.  Talk about an arm and shoulder workout last weekend.

Here is the finished product.  I’m very happy with the results and my hard work over just one weekend.

The quilt is for sale in my Etsy store.
