A Special Quilt for a Very Special Girl

My cousin and her husband welcomed to the world their first child over 9 years ago.  As Lexi grew, it became apparent something wasn’t right.  My cousin worked with physical and occupational therapists and Lexi underwent testing.

Muscular Dystrophy was the diagnosis.  Over the years she has dealt with this disease and it’s negative side effects.

She has made a huge decision for her own health, have a major surgery to help her.

I’ve made quilts for plenty of kids through Project Linus.  Since Lexi is being brave and undergoing surgery today, I wanted to make something could provide comfort from 1200 miles away.

Portion of the front.

She likes neon pink and green along with peace signs.  Circles came to mind when I first contacted my cousin about making the quilt.

Zoom in on the circles.

I hope this quilt provides warmth and comfort through a scary surgery for a young girl.

Quilts for Kids

Have you seen the Downy commercials recently?  I love that they are giving back to kids with a program Quilts for Kids.  I would like to see more than $.05 per bottle going to this charity, but it’s a start.  I wonder how many bottles they have sold so far??

I did some research into Quilts for Kids this morning and was impressed by their mission.  Saving fabric from landfills.

MISSION STATEMENT: Transforming discontinued, unwanted and other fabrics into patchwork quilts that comfort children with life-threatening illnesses and children of abuse.

So green and a great idea.

Volunteering is easy and they will also take other donations as well.  Not sure if the quilts will stay local like a Project Linus chapter.

Has anyone already done something with them??  Do you have photos to share?

4.5 UPDATE:

Just got an email that my package is on the way.  It’s like Christmas, what will I get??
