Whipped up a quick present for someone over the last month. They wanted something more traditional but brighter colors. So many monkeys!
Sorry for the poor picture quality. It had been raining here for days and a good shot couldn’t be done outside. Plus these were taken at 8am before they were delivered at 8:30am. Nothing like cutting it close.
I had one very happy customer.
My first quilt has been locked in a closet for the last couple of years…THANK God. It’s terrible, the fabric shrank, it’s off, just an overall mess. Thanks to my parents for loving it no matter my critiques.
I made this the Fall/Winter of 2000. I was home from my freshmen year at IU for Thanksgiving and thought this would be a great gift for my parents. I took my Gma to Wal-Mart with me to buy the fabric. There was no pattern in mind, just wanted to make something. Found some blues that would work for my parents room and started cutting. No rotary cutter and ruler, just scissors and a 3″ square cut out from poster board.
To keep the quilt a secret from my parents I had to leave everything at my gmas. Let’s just say I spent a lot time over there during that break. On Christmas Eve I was to the point that I needed to bring the quilt top and sewing machine into my parents house to finish sewing. Of course no one wanted to go to bed that night. They all stayed up to watch a Christmas Movie until 11pm. I gave up and took a nap and slept until they went to bed.
I ran outside, grabbed the machine, and set up my machine. The quilt was finished around 3am, only because I ran out of binding. It’s tacked with embroidery floss and not at every block. It shrank after the first wash. My parents were so happy with their gift. They actually used the quilt on their bed for a few years. Now it’s retired to a closet since they have updated their room.

Happy to announce it is now complete. These wonderful fabrics have been in my collection for some time. I and uninspired and unsure what to do. Thank you to Elizabeth from IMQG for her wonderful quilt using the Denyse Schmidt Hope Valley fabric.
Making a version of the strip quilts I did previously was really fun. Using a light blue thread I thought really tied everything together. Can’t wait for this quilt to find a new home. Possibly one with an adorable baby snuggling on it?

I was in love with Studio E’s Etching fabrics that were out earlier this year. I wanted to create pillowcases to add some color to our neutral bedroom. Lots of brown and tan in there. Blue is color hubby and I can agree on. You might remember my Vintage Modern post from earlier about looking for fabrics that would go well in our room. There is still lots of design work to be done in there, but we are focusing on other locations in the house right now…the basement.

So far we have had two nights of sweet dreams on them. Hubby commented that maybe he should leave more often since I did these while he was on a camping trip.
This is #2 of the three baby quilts I have been working on. My neighbor wanted something for her friend that is having baby #2 very soon. I knew this could be bold and bright. Baby boy quilts are the hardest especially since you try to keep things from getting girly. Finding fabric can be really difficult.
I was out with another friend shopping and came across this dress at Saks. We were just passing through, I can’t convince myself to purchase anything from there.
Solids and bold colors, I loved it and the neighbor approved. Here is what I started with.
I cut the fabric into 5 strips measuring 1.5″, 2.5″, 3″ and 4″.
I started piecing and the whole quilt came together pretty quickly. I gave my neighbor a sneak peek last week and she was loving it.
For an added touch I hand embroidered Sam onto a scrap to use on the back, similar to the Mother’s Day quilts. I finished that part up over ice cream with some IMQG ladies.
Here is the finished results. This quilt has become my favorite of all the quilts that I have done. I’m loving the color combination and the back. The binding fabric really tied the front and back together.
Off to go work on baby Sam #2 quilt. Two friends requested baby boy quilts for Sam’s both due in June, odd.
Blue is color that I am usually drawn to. Hubby and I are working on re-painting our bedroom in the next few months and I’m looking at a variety of dark blues for an accent wall. A nice light gray will be the primary color. So I wanted to look at vintage blue fabrics that could be used in our design.
Fabrics and design can’t be overly girly. I think these would be a great addition to the room and add in some pops of color.
