I have been loving solids lately when designing quilts. They are so simple, yet provide lots of color and pop. Using a similar pattern to the boy’s bar graph quilt, I created one for girls. Loving it.
The quilt is made with all Kona Solids on the top and the back is a Moda print. Hope it finds a good home soon. You can find it in my Etsy shop here.
Busy as usual in the sewing room this week. I was asked to make a donation quilt for the Indiana Diabetes Association’s Gala. The color to support diabetes is red. Went through my stash and found all the black, red, and white fabrics. Last Sunday during football the fabric was cut and ready to be sewn. Here is the design wall sneak peek.
The quilt was finished at 2am and photographed at 7am. Not the best pictures but at least I remembered. I have been known to forget when I’m on deadline.
Off it went with the hubby to work on Friday to be auctioned off on Saturday. Friday’s project was finishing a gender neutral quilt for some ladies I met while doing a show. They wanted something modern and selected some of the vintage fabrics I had in my stash.
Here’s the back. It’s a vintage sheet and I LOVE it.
Adding the tight quilting lines I think really helped. I tried to keep it as neutral as possible. Hard to not go girly or boyish. The quilt was picked up on Saturday and they LOVED it too.
Busy week but always worth it to see people very happy and thinking of a happy baby that will get to snuggle on the quilt.
Can’t believe that two years ago I was running around Central Florida picking up grandmas and going to the hospital to meet this new little person. I remember the day his mom said she was pregnant…I admit, I cried with excitement.
One of my favorite memories with my favorite gator was when he was just a few weeks old and we went to visit. He slept on my shoulder all afternoon. Who doesn’t love a snuggly baby??
Well happy birthday my favorite gator. Enjoy your new quilt and have lots of snuggles with it.

Happy to announce it is now complete. These wonderful fabrics have been in my collection for some time. I and uninspired and unsure what to do. Thank you to Elizabeth from IMQG for her wonderful quilt using the Denyse Schmidt Hope Valley fabric.
Making a version of the strip quilts I did previously was really fun. Using a light blue thread I thought really tied everything together. Can’t wait for this quilt to find a new home. Possibly one with an adorable baby snuggling on it?

This is #2 of the three baby quilts I have been working on. My neighbor wanted something for her friend that is having baby #2 very soon. I knew this could be bold and bright. Baby boy quilts are the hardest especially since you try to keep things from getting girly. Finding fabric can be really difficult.
I was out with another friend shopping and came across this dress at Saks. We were just passing through, I can’t convince myself to purchase anything from there.
Solids and bold colors, I loved it and the neighbor approved. Here is what I started with.
I cut the fabric into 5 strips measuring 1.5″, 2.5″, 3″ and 4″.
I started piecing and the whole quilt came together pretty quickly. I gave my neighbor a sneak peek last week and she was loving it.
For an added touch I hand embroidered Sam onto a scrap to use on the back, similar to the Mother’s Day quilts. I finished that part up over ice cream with some IMQG ladies.
Here is the finished results. This quilt has become my favorite of all the quilts that I have done. I’m loving the color combination and the back. The binding fabric really tied the front and back together.
Off to go work on baby Sam #2 quilt. Two friends requested baby boy quilts for Sam’s both due in June, odd.
These were finished in November for a show. Yes, two in a week was lots of work for me. I’ve been busy working on lots of other projects to get these out into the world.
This would be a great quilt for a nursery. (more…)
