Hello Luscious baby girl quilt

Couldn’t resist the Moda Hello Luscious line that came out a few months ago.  Instead of the usual charm pack, I opted for a jelly roll to try something different.  Upon receiving the fabric I picked out the mostly pink, blue and green fabrics.  Not sure why, but I set them aside.

Finally a girl’s quilt came up in my queue of work.  After so much blue it was nice to work with pink.  I like to keep it simple and I opted for a subway tile pattern.

With the voile quilt I did manage to use up all of my Kona Pomegranate, good problem until you need it for a quilt back.  I had a sheet that was really coordinated better.

Binding was done in a solid green color to coordinate with the colors in the quilt.  Probably took me 10 minutes going through my Kona options to find one I liked the best.

The blue in this quilt has to be one of my favorite shades, not too teal or baby blue.  Just right.

This quilt lined up very well.  I will work on tutorial on how I kept it all straight this week and share over the weekend.

Shabby Chic Baby Girl Quilt

This Moda Simplicity fabric was some of the first fabric I purchased in charm packs.  I have held on to it for no good reason, but then had a request for a girly quilt.  I thought this would be perfect.  Girly and shabby chic.

The 5″ squares were cut into 3.5″ x 5″ rectangles and 1.5″ x 5″ rectangles.  Then I mixed and matched them to give it a random look.  I wanted the layout to be simple and floating in white.

I had put aside some of the 5″ squares to use for the binding.  I really liked the look of the white and the floral print.  Has to be my favorite part of the quilt.

For the backing I had a vintage sheet put then did find a fabric from the collection at a quilt store that I had stopped at.  I adore the vintage sheet I was wanting to use so that can be saved for another project.

Pink and Green Scrap Square Quilt

Could you imagine having 3 little girls and really wanting a boy? Only to find out that baby #4 is another girl?  The lucky recipient of this girl is a beautiful new baby girl with a dad who was really hoping for a boy. Also, he’s a Jets fan.  Shocking my husband, a devout Giants fan, let me make this quilt.

Seriously, the dad is ecstatic with his new bundle of joy.  When asked to make the quilt, the goal was to not make it too girly using pink and green.  I started pulling fabrics and the idea came to me.  I would use 1.5″ and 2″ squares in pink and green to give the quilt the right touch.

Luckily most of the fabric was in my scraps and no new fabric needed to be purchased for this quilt.  This may be a first.  Cutting the very small squares took a while, but the piecing took longer.

The small squares did exactly what I wanted; green with a just a pop of pink.

Laying out the quilt took a couple different designs and this is the one I decided on.

A diagonal pattern worked out great for these small squares.  Strips of where formed to make piecing the top easier.

For quilting I wanted something simple that didn’t overpower the quilt.  Binding is a solid pink and the back was a green print.

Purple, Pink and Gray Quilt

Throughout 2012 I really want to try and work through my stash and scraps.  In my collection were some 1930’s reproduction prints.  Here is the original quilt I made with some of prints.

This one is for sale in my Etsy shop.

Using the same pattern I went through the more girly colors and decided to just focus on the pinks and purples.  I still have a few colors but they will be going into my donation stash.  They are not my style.  I tried white instead of gray, but the gray was just right. I had just enough Kona Gray to finish making the blocks.

The piecing was easy.  Once the blocks were made, the blocks did spend a few days on my design wall.  I wanted balance with the prints.

Couldn’t resist using the new fabric from Riley Blake on the back.  It is light gray with little white flowers.  For the quilting I just wanted something simple.  Criss cross diagonal lines in white finished off the quilt.  The binding is a light pink solid from my stash.

The finished quilt is for sale in my Etsy shop.

Another Strip Quilt

Finally had a chance to use the Hoffman Colorsplash fabrics that had been in my stash for a bit.  I had been waiting for the right little girl to make her something special.  Why else would you hold to fabric for almost 2 years?

Upon completing the top, I realized it is was crooked.  I learned from my mistake, do not piece all the pieces together.  Do them in sections then piece the sections together.  After pinning, quilting and lots of little cuts to get the sides even, I am happy with the result.
