Scrappy Ohio Stars

A little over five years ago I met this lovable quirky girl named Rachael at a Sunday afternoon Indy Modern Quilt Guild meeting.  So glad for that meeting and the impact she has had on my life over the last few years.  Even better we live a mile from each other.

Last year we discussed making a scrap quilt together.  While I love my scraps, it’s nice to have a little bit of something else thrown in.  We each made 20 of the Bright Birch blocks and swapped 10.  My whole family adores this quilt and I love to look at various scraps from our projects over the years.

This fall we began discussing another scrap quilt.  We hit the pool for a weekly workout and grabbed drinks after.  A beer always helps my creative spirit.  Funny enough our server knew another guild member.  Random and awesome!

We needed another good scrap buster and we found an idea that works well with both of scraps and stashes.  Well I guess the blog post title gives it away…Scrappy Ohio Stars!  The inspiration for this year’s quilt is from Hyacinth Quilt Designs.  Cindy was gracious enough to give me permission to use her photos for my blog.  Thank you again!

With the upcoming holidays I will have some more downtime to sew and play catch up.  Rachael has already completed her 30 blocks.  Goodness she’s a quilting ninja I swear.  Her blocks are below.

She told me they were fast and she’s right.  I’m using this tutorial to help me.  The first couple of quarter square triangles took me a bit to process, but once I did, it’s sew baby sew!

Since most of my scraps are already in 5″ squares, I’m cutting a half square triangle them trimming down to a quarter square triangle.  Not sure what I’m going to do with the added scraps from it.

No pictures yet of mine, but they are on this weekend’s agenda.
