Yesterday I talked about my sewing goals for 2015. One being to work on a scrap project each month. For January I want to finish up my 10 blocks for a Bright Birch Tree Block Swap.

A couple of months ago my friend Rachael and I decided to make these blocks. Instead of making all 20 from our scraps we would mix it up. We each still make 20 blocks, but swap 10 of them.
First I made up my scrap strips in 2.5″, 2″, and 1.5″ widths. I tried not to repeat my scraps within each width. Amazing that I was able to make a pretty long strip without repeats. It’s great to see scraps from so many different projects in one all together.
I made up four blocks pretty quickly one night. Might I suggest a really hot iron when you are making these up, the seams can get pretty thick on the smaller strips.
I restocked some of my solids during some sales last month and I can’t wait to finish these last six blocks to swap. I know I still need to make another 10, but right now let’s set the goal for six more to swap by the end of the month.
