Survived My First Craft Show

Saturday was the first craft show I had ever been a vendor at.  It was an interesting experience.  Much like Etsy, people like to stop, look, compliment you on your items, and then move on to the next shop.  Thanks for stopping by.

Overall the show was slow and the only vendors that did well were the re-sellers.  Apparently these customers were more interested in something mass produced instead of something someone actually made.

Most people noted that they too had made a quilt in their lifetime, they sew, or asked me how long I had been sewing.  You should have seen the looks on their faces when I said 10 years.

For my first show it was a great learning experience and the push I needed to get my Etsy shop where I want it to be.  Good news considering I have some custom orders to be doing in the next couple of weeks.

Fabric Reviews

I have alot going on in my sewing room right now. I’m having a sewing ultra marathon tomorrow. Send me some good vibes.

In the next couple of weeks I’m going to be reviewing various fabric manufacturers and their new lines.

I’ve been drooling over here. Please October hurry up to get here so I can purchase some of these fabrics. Can’t wait to share with you the fabrics that I’ve been looking at.

Fabric Fasting

This will be the hardest month I have ever had.  I have started my fabric fast for the month of September.  We are 10 days into it and the amount of sales and promotions I have seen so far is making me sad.  I will stick to my guns.

See this picture of my fabric stash that is out???  Yeah, I need to get through some of that before I add anymore.  Good thing I have a craft show in October to help me get energized to create more projects.

This is what I have unpacked, sorted, and have for projects.

Rules for the month of September Fast:

  • I can only purchase notions that I absolutely need:  needles, thread, spray, etc.
  • No fabric can be purchased for future use.
  • If and only if I get into a project that requires more fabric, that is the only fabric I can purchase.

Oh man, I really hope I can hold out and make it through the entire month.  Hawthorne Threads and Fat Quarter Shop are very tempting with their constant updates on Facebook.

Speaking of Facebook, I have a group on there…Quiltytherapy.  Just getting it started, join me group, who knows what I might post on there.

Gearing Up

I spent my half day off yesterday sewing.  It was MARVELOUS.  Overall, I got a quilt pressed, pinned and 3/4 of the way quilted.  Now I just need about an hour to finish the quilting, trim, and get the binding on.  Woohoo.  New Etsy listing for me.

This week and I have been drooling over new fabrics.  No really, I spend time at my grown up job looking at manufacturer’s Web sites.  My coworkers say I should just sell fabric.  I would LOVE to, no clue how to do that though.  Any advice would be awesome.

Back on topic…next week is Fat Quarter Frenzy at Quilts Plus.  I have been waiting for this for a month.  I stopped in this week to pick up the backing to a quilt and was asking about it.  Turns out they have TUBS of fabric ready for next week.  I’m so excited that I’m taking a long lunch next Friday to enjoy.  Never know…maybe some of those fat quarters will end up as a give away on here.

I have tried to be good and not purchase any new fabric so I can shop this sale.  I don’t normally like fat quarters, but they do come in handy.  Plus they’re going to be much cheaper than normal.

So if you’re in the area, join me.

This made me smile.
