Week of two completed quilts…part 2

This quilt was my submission to the Modern Quilt Guild’s Challenge #3.  Organic was the word we were challenged with to build a quilt around.  Challenge accepted.  I spent lots of time building an idea and looking for inspiration.  Then it hit me.

I was driving with my girlfriend while we were out for her birthday and I was looking at all of the vibrant green trees with brown and purple all mixed in along the road.  When we got to dinner, I busted out paper and started designing.  Later that week I went on bike route along the Monon Trail in Indy and it all come together.  Those same colors were exploding along the trail.  It made riding 25 miles a little easier.

This is my interpretation of the trail with all the bright bold colors of purple, green and brown that outlined the trail.

A Special Quilt for a Very Special Girl

My cousin and her husband welcomed to the world their first child over 9 years ago.  As Lexi grew, it became apparent something wasn’t right.  My cousin worked with physical and occupational therapists and Lexi underwent testing.

Muscular Dystrophy was the diagnosis.  Over the years she has dealt with this disease and it’s negative side effects.

She has made a huge decision for her own health, have a major surgery to help her.

I’ve made quilts for plenty of kids through Project Linus.  Since Lexi is being brave and undergoing surgery today, I wanted to make something could provide comfort from 1200 miles away.

Portion of the front.

She likes neon pink and green along with peace signs.  Circles came to mind when I first contacted my cousin about making the quilt.

Zoom in on the circles.

I hope this quilt provides warmth and comfort through a scary surgery for a young girl.

Moda Eva

Moda Eva is one of my favorite fabric lines.  It’s girly and offers great shades of purple, green, and pink.  Paisley, swirls, peacocks, polka dots, circles, and vines.

I’ve made potholders and quilts from this great line.

On the quilt I was really unsure what to do with it.  Took a few different layouts on the design wall.  The best layout is variegating the fabric from darkest to lightest.  I think it turned out pretty well.
