Fabric Fasting

This will be the hardest month I have ever had.  I have started my fabric fast for the month of September.  We are 10 days into it and the amount of sales and promotions I have seen so far is making me sad.  I will stick to my guns.

See this picture of my fabric stash that is out???  Yeah, I need to get through some of that before I add anymore.  Good thing I have a craft show in October to help me get energized to create more projects.

This is what I have unpacked, sorted, and have for projects.

Rules for the month of September Fast:

  • I can only purchase notions that I absolutely need:  needles, thread, spray, etc.
  • No fabric can be purchased for future use.
  • If and only if I get into a project that requires more fabric, that is the only fabric I can purchase.

Oh man, I really hope I can hold out and make it through the entire month.  Hawthorne Threads and Fat Quarter Shop are very tempting with their constant updates on Facebook.

Speaking of Facebook, I have a group on there…Quiltytherapy.  Just getting it started, join me group, who knows what I might post on there.

Another Favorite Fabric Designer

Last fall I was obsessed with the Gobble Gobble line.  It was adorable and didn’t scream THANKSGIVING!!!  It is a great fall line with strong colors and details with the option of traditional fall decor.  Thank you Sandy Gervais

Well, she did not disappoint again this year.  For your Thanksgiving feast you can incorporate her line Awesome into your holiday buffet.  It is very similar to Gobble Gobble with a few tweaks for a fresh updated look.  Considering I bought all the of the Gobble Gobble charm packs I could, I expect to do the same with Awesome.  Fat Quarter Shop, can you run a special on them??

Ring in the Holiday season with the blend of Adoring fabrics.  I love that Sandy took traditional red and green and added in cream and blues for accents.  The fabrics are not overly Christmas, but suttle enough to be left out slightly after the Holiday has passed.  Too bad I don’t have a dining room table or else this line would be used for a cute tablerunner.

July is seriously starting this week, leaving only a few months to get the Christmas and Holiday projects complete.  Time to get busy and shopping.  Thanks again Sandy Gervais for creating wonderful lines that could be used outside of the Holiday season.

Timeless Treasures Fave New Fabric Lines

New fabric is always such an inspiration.  My mind starts going and creating as I started looking into Timeless Treasures new fabrics.  Thank you to fabric designers that are being non-traditional and working to create new trends.

One of my favorite manufacturers is Timeless Treasures.  Their Web site is very easy to navigate and they have great photos.  My favorite designer for them is Alice Kennedy.  She created some of the fabrics that I spoke about earlier this year:  Lily and Strawberry Fields.  I could kick myself in the rear for not purchasing the Strawberry Fields for my stash, but buying a house was more important at the time.  There are a few shops that have it still online, none of the local shops near me purchased the lines.

Currently, this is what I am loving from Timeless.

Acorn:  It’s bright, cheery, and funky in the brights line.  The neutrals are more grown-up, trendy and could easily work into anyone’s home decor.  If you visit Fat Quarter Shop you can find them under Fruity Acorn and Nutty Acorn.  I must resist the Nutty Acorn…it fabrics would go well in my living room.

Berkley:  Thanks again Alice, love this line.  The Peacock Berkley is a great blend of yellow, blue, and green.  There is a wonderful retro feel with coordinating stripes and paisleys.  Bubblegum Berkley would be great for a young girl.  It’s not babyish, but stylish and not too grown up.

Botanica:  Lourdes Sanchez is wooing me with this combination of purples, grey, yellow and black.  I think I could incorporate these colors into our bedroom.  The purple isn’t too much especially since it is muted by the grey, black, and mustard yellow.  Now I just need to find out when this line is available.

Okay back to the real world of work.  I’ve got to afford my fabric obsession somehow.

Baby Ryan

Congrats to Nate and Missy as they welcome their son, Ryan.  I’ve known about his arrival for so long and was super excited to meet him.

Ryan has a great jungle themed nursery and is the “rhino” in his jungle.  Cute huh?  My original thought was something animal for a quilt.  The stuff I was finding was not want I wanted or match the nursery.

After I found what I was going to do I found the Robert Kaufman Animal Party.  The Retro prints would have been perfect.  You can find the kits and other coordinating fabrics at Fat Quarter Shop.  The kits were cute, but expensive for me right now.  Grlfrnd has been trying to use up the stash…not add to it.

During a Fat Tuesday sell at Sew and Quilt, I found some great Florida Gators fabric.  Since Missy has her PhD from Florida and they still live in Gainesville, it is quite fitting.  Little Ry-no will have plenty of Gators stuff, so I wanted to contribute.  I had looked for a Tebow jersey so he could match his mom.

I started with 5 fat quarters and created a disappaearing nine patch.  This has become my go to pattern anymore.  It’s so easy and does give a quilt a great random look without much effort.

Completed Block

Once the blocks are completed, they were cut down the center both horizontally and vertically.  I then pieced the blocks together trying my best to keep the writing all going the same way.  For the quilting I wanted to keep it simple and not take away from the piecing.  Diagonals were easy and really set off the quilt.  Unlike others the tails were able to be put in the binding keeping them secure.

Over the weekend we went to visit Baby Ryan.  He is super cute and snuggly.  No moms, this does want to make us speed up the baby process, we’re still about 3-5 years out.  Ryan sported his Gators onesie and the new quilt during the Florida win over Georgia.  Go Gators!  Too bad our other teams could not deliver yesterday.
