There are many great sewists within Indianapolis Modern Quilt Guild. Darcie, of Clover Quilts, is one that I always enjoy her work. She uses bright colors and isn’t afraid of a challenge. She quilted an enormous quilt on her home machine. It’s a monster!
She has created a fantastic tutorial for a Christmas table runner. I immediately thought this is a great scrap buster and fast weekend project. Maybe this pile could be put to good use. 
Christmas Table Runner

If you’ve worked with half square triangles (HSTs), this Christmas table runner is easy-peasy. And if you haven’t worked with HSTs, this table runner is a great place to start! It’s fast, fun, and definitely beginner friendly! The finished project measures about 12 x 36 inches.
Materials Needed:
- – 18 6” squares
- 6 in white (background)
- 2 squares of print A & 2 squares of print B (3 sets)
- – ½ yard Insul-bright (hot and cold resistant batting)
- – ½ yard fabric for backing
- – 1/8 yard for binding
To Make One Block:
Step 1
Match one Print A square and one Print B square. Line up each square right sides together. Using a ¼ inch seam allowance, stich around the outside.
Step 2
Cut along both diagonals of the now sewn together squares. *Tip: Rotate the mat when cutting the second diagonal as opposed to the fabric to get a more accurate cut.*
Step 3
Press seams open.
Step 4
Repeat steps 1-3 using one white square and one Print A square.
Step 5
Repeat steps 1-3 using one white square and one Print B square.
Step 6
Trim all HSTs to 3.5 inches.
Step 7
Lay out HSTs in layout as shown in picture below.
Step 8
Sew HSTs together row by row, then column by column. Your completed block should measure 12.5 inches.
Step 9
Repeat steps 1-8 for remaining 2 blocks.
Step 10
Sew all 3 blocks together.
Congratulations! Your table runner top is complete!
Quilt and Bind with your favorite technique. The Insul-bright will allow you to use the table runner as an extra long potholder as well! Perfect for family meal time during the holidays!
